Symptoms of molluscum contagiosum.
The first signs usually appear about two weeks after infection. Common symptoms include:
- painless, small, flesh-colored nodules (up to 3 mm);
- lesions may be single or multiple and can sometimes merge together;
- the rash can appear on various parts of the body, except the palms and soles;
- occasional itching may occur.
The infection is most contagious when the rash is present.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis is primarily based on a clinical examination. In some cases, additional methods such as dermoscopy or microscopic examination of the lesion contents may be used.
